AbstractIn this paper it is investigated a novel approach to model uncertainty in the Spectral Linear Mixing Model (SLMM) based on the residuals produced by that model. This problem is approached by applying the SLMM to a synthetically produced image data, with known fractions of the endmembers at each pixel. The actual error in the fractions, as produced by the SLMM is then analyzed with regard to the residuals produced by that model. The search for possible additional endmembers in the spectral mixture is also included in the proposed methodology, with the corresponding spectral signatures estimated from the residuals. The techniques proposed have been validated on real CBERS-2B multispectral image data in a qualitative and quantitative manner.The results obtained suggest the validity of the proposed approach.
